What is ERCP?
ERCP is the gold standard endoscopic procedure for evaluation and treatment of bile duct and pancreas duct disorders. During ERCP the bile ducts are visualized using x-ray and contrast fluid.
What is Digital Cholangioscopy (Spyglass)?
Spyglass is a tiny high definition camera that can fit through an endoscope into the bile duct to directly see into the bile duct.
Why is Digital Cholangioscopy needed?
Occasionally it is helpful for specially trained endoscopists to directly visualize the inside of the bile ducts to visualize stones or tumors. Once a lesion is in view, various maneuvers such as directed biopsies (sampling) or laser lithotripsy can be performed. Laser therapy can be applied through spyglass to fragment large bile duct stones.
